The Role

Own the design of HVAC systems across a variety of project types including educational, civic, arts, and commercial buildings. This is a senior role. You will be the licensed mechanical authority for a full-service architecture and engineering firm, supported by an in-house plumbing team and engineering technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems and produce the accompanying specifications
• Perform design load calculations and energy modeling
• Mentor junior engineering and design staff
• Conduct site visits and lead interdisciplinary coordination with architecture, structural, electrical, and plumbing
• Provide construction administration support including submittal review and RFI response

Qualifications

Required

• Licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical). Virginia licensure required; we will support comity licensure for engineers currently licensed in another US jurisdiction
• 7 to 10 years of professional experience in building HVAC design
• Demonstrated ability to seal drawings and own a project's mechanical scope end to end
• Experience with load calculation and energy modeling software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IES VE, or equivalent
• Familiarity with COMcheck and energy code compliance documentation
• Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, multi-discipline team

Preferred

• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP
• K-12, higher education, or civic project experience
• Experience fitting modern mechanical systems into existing or historic structures
• LEED accreditation or demonstrated high-performance building experience

MUST HAVE

• Licensed PE, any state
• Building HVAC, not industrial or process
• Has done construction administration
• Can direct construction documents in Revit
• Will work onsite in Roanoke full time
