Construction Inspection Team Lead
Location: Southern Indiana (Regional Oversight) Sector: Transportation Infrastructure / Public Works
Position Summary
The Construction Inspection Team Lead is a pivotal leadership role within a growing engineering and infrastructure consulting organization. This individual is responsible for overseeing inspection teams dedicated to roadway and bridge construction projects across two key transportation districts in Southern Indiana. The primary objective is to ensure that all infrastructure initiatives adhere strictly to agency specifications, safety protocols, and rigorous quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Technical Oversight: Leads and coordinates comprehensive inspection activities for transportation infrastructure, including roadways, bridges, utilities, and traffic systems.
- Compliance Verification: Ensures contractor performance and material usage align perfectly with project specifications and approved engineering plans.
- Testing & Inspection: Provides direct field inspection and testing services for both new construction and complex rehabilitation projects.
- Quantity Analysis: Performs critical earthwork quantity calculations, including cut-and-fill analysis, to verify project progress and billing accuracy.
- Reporting: Prepares detailed daily field inspection reports, incorporating thorough written documentation and photographic records.
- Plan Interpretation: Interprets complex construction plans, supplemental documentation, and as-built drawings to guide field teams.
- Change Management: Coordinates with project teams regarding contract modifications and the documentation of field changes.
- Digital Systems: Utilizes agency-specific digital construction management systems to track and report project status.
- Team Development: Mentors and guides junior inspection staff, supporting their professional growth and the overall quality of project delivery.
- Client Relations: Supports regional business development and relationship management efforts with state and local public agencies.
- Industry Background: 5+ years of infrastructure construction inspection experience, with a heavy emphasis on transportation projects.
- Agency Knowledge: Proven experience supporting state or local transportation agency construction programs.
- Education: A High School Diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred.
- Procedural Mastery: Deep understanding of roadway, bridge, and civil construction inspection procedures.
- Bridge construction and deck repair inspection
- Concrete and Asphalt paving inspection
- Earthwork, grading, and soil testing
- Construction procedures and documentation management
- Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and support field personnel under challenging conditions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for reporting and stakeholder coordination.
- Mobility: Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to travel frequently to various project sites across the assigned districts.
