Job Description - ICCU Nurse Position: ICCU Nurse / Critical Care Nurse Department: Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) Location: Hospital / Healthcare Facility Reports To: Nurse Supervisor / ICU Incharge / Physician
1. Job Summary

The ICCU Nurse is responsible for providing specialized care to patients with critical cardiac conditions. This includes continuous monitoring, administering emergency treatments, assisting with invasive procedures, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and care in the coronary care environment.


2. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Monitoring
  • Monitor vital signs (ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythm) continuously.

  • Identify early signs of cardiac distress, arrhythmias, and complications.

  • Provide bedside care to critically ill cardiac patients.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and update charts regularly.

Medication & Treatment Administration
  • Administer IV infusions, cardiac medications, thrombolytics, anticoagulants, inotropes, and emergency drugs as per protocol.

  • Manage ventilators, defibrillators, pacemakers, and other ICU equipment.

  • Assist doctors during procedures such as catheterization, central line insertion, cardioversion, and intubation.

Emergency Response
  • Respond immediately to cardiac emergencies (MI, heart block, cardiac arrest).

  • Perform CPR and support Code Blue team activities.

  • Use ACLS protocols effectively during emergencies.

Care Coordination
  • Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, and other healthcare staff.

  • Communicate effectively with patient families regarding condition and care plan.

  • Ensure proper handover reports are given during shift changes.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain sterile environment.

  • Ensure proper functioning of ICU equipment and report any malfunction.

  • Adhere to hospital policies, nursing standards, and legal regulations.


3. Required Skills & Qualifications Education
  • B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing

  • Valid Nursing Registration (State Nursing Council)

Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in ICU/ICCU/Critical Care preferred

  • Freshers with strong clinical skills may also be considered

Skills
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac care & critical care procedures

  • Proficiency with cardiac monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and ICU protocols

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations

  • Strong documentation and patient management abilities

Certifications (Preferred)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
