Paraeducator

This is a 6.25 hours per day, 180 days per year position with benefits at Horizon Elementary School. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. Hours for this position are 8:25 a.m. - 3:40 p.m. (Hours include a 30 min lunch & 30 min unpaid time from 11:25 a.m. - 12:25 p.m.) The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with students that have challenging behaviors. Responsibilities include supervising students during recess to maintain a safe and positive environment, assisting with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal (including crossing guard duties), and supporting nutrition service operations for 0.5 hours during the morning.

Preferred experience with working with students in an elementary setting. Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required.

Basic WA State Para qualifications and experience working with children.

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.

Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation. Desire and aptitude to work with students. Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions. Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment. Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students. Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required. Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning. Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.

Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Meet one of the following requirements: Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment. Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment. The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program. Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.

Nutrition Service I

Perform a variety of duties in the preparation and serving of food for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs at designated school site(s).

Ability to read and follow recipes, use kitchen equipment, follow safety and sanitation rules, and requirements to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for students. Complete knowledge of Snohomish County and Washington State food safety, sanitation and proper temperatures including HAACP. Ability to maintain updated knowledge of school policies and procedures that affect the school nutrition services program and this position. Ability to participate in job related training. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents. Ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions. Ability to do math calculations and make correct change at a high school level. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and to be flexible in meeting deadlines. Ability to correctly and safely lift up to 35 pounds.

High school diploma or its equivalent. Washington State Health Card Required.

ServSafe certification desired. Previous experience in the food industry preferred. Vocational training in the food service industry preferred.
