Independent Contract Opportunity: Peer Recovery Coach
HOPE COS is seeking experienced COPA State Certified Peer Coaches to provide peer-based support services for individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use challenges. This is an independent contract role focused on supporting recovery through lived experience, compassion, and dignity.
Scope of Work
- Provide one-on-one and group peer coaching sessions, guided by lived experience and recovery principles.
- Accurately and promptly enter peer service data and documentation into designated systems, in alignment with program and funding requirements.
- Participate in regular CoacherVision sessions and scheduled consultation meetings to support quality peer coaching services and contract deliverables.
- Contractors may also be invited to team-building events and organizational gatherings, which are encouraged but not required.
- Collaborate with HOPE COS staff and community partners, while maintaining full independence as a contractor.
- Uphold HOPE COS values of compassion, dignity, and respect in all services delivered.
- Note: This role is distinct from Qualified Behavioral Health Aide (QBHA) positions and does not involve clinical or behavioral health treatment services.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of continuous sustained recovery from substance use.
- Lived experience with substance use recovery.
- Active/valid Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) certification PREFERRED.
- We may make an exception for applicants who do not have their CPFS but are nearly ready to sit for their ICRC exam through COPA. This means they must have already completed all 60 credits towards their state certification as defined by COPA and simply need their 500 hours of supervision.

- Demonstrated ability to complete timely and accurate data entry.
- Professional liability insurance is required.
- Ability to function as an independent contractor, providing own schedule and managing taxes and insurance.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct, integrity, professional boundaries, and accountability. Because peer support services rely on trust and the responsible stewardship of public and community resources, applicants must demonstrate conduct consistent with the Colorado Peer and Family Specialist Code of Ethics.
- Must successfully complete a background check. Past justice involvement will not automatically disqualify applicants; results will be reviewed only for relevance to the responsibilities of this role.
- Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience providing peer coaching services. Relevant experience will be reviewed for alignment with HOPE COSs values and ethical standards.
Equipment Requirements
Contractors must have access to the following:
- Personal computer with reliable internet access
- Reliable transportation
- Mobile phone with call, text, and email capability
- Ability to use standard virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- Secure personal email account for professional communication
Compensation
Compensation will follow HOPE COSs established contractor scales, with rates determined by experience and service type (individual or group sessions).
