Ed Herrington, Inc. is seeking a full-time or part-time Counter Sales Associate for our Millerton, NY location. This position offers a daytime schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with every other Saturday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Position Summary
The Counter Sales Associate plays a key role in providing outstanding customer service, assisting customers with product selection, processing sales transactions, and supporting daily store operations. This position requires a customer-focused individual who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and working as part of a team.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Assist customers at the building materials and paint counters.
  • Greet customers, identify their needs, and recommend products that best fit their projects.
  • Promote featured products and current sales initiatives.
  • Respond to customer phone calls, answer questions, take orders, and provide product information.
  • Prepare paint orders to customer color specifications.
  • Create quotes, sales orders, delivery orders, and special orders.
  • Process customer purchases and operate a cash register accurately.
  • Research product availability and source special-order items when appropriate.
  • Stock shelves, maintain inventory levels, and organize merchandise displays.
  • Keep sales areas clean, attractive, and well merchandised.
  • Assist with inventory counts and related inventory functions.
  • Collaborate with management and warehouse personnel to maintain stock and overstock areas.
  • Review customer orders to identify opportunities for additional products and services.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and effectively.
  • Participate in required training programs and industry events.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous retail, sales, customer service, building materials, hardware, or paint experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale system proficiency.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Reliable, organized, and team-oriented.
