Job description

Commercial Vehicle Drivetrain & Chassis Specialist

Public transportation depends on precision. When a bus pulls into the depot with a charging fault, you isolate the issue and restore the system. An hour later, you’re machining valves for an overhaul; by day’s end, a rebuilt transmission is back on the road. Your craft keeps riders connected to work, school, and home.

Your impact
  • Execute complete diesel tune-ups, overhauls, and component repairs

  • Rebuild light- and heavy-duty transmissions
  • Handle machining operations including valve grinding
  • Overhaul differentials
  • Service air-spring and hydraulic suspension systems
  • Maintain pneumatic brake and steering systems and related accessories
  • Service hydraulic brake and steering systems and associated accessories
  • Diagnose and repair starting and charging electrical systems
  • Repair chassis wiring and install/accessorize auxiliary systems
  • Maintain vehicle HVAC (heating and air conditioning)
  • Install and remove fareboxes
  • Apply general welding techniques
  • Perform minor body repairs and panel replacements
What you’ll need on day one
  • A complete mechanic’s tool set (excluding special tools) up to 1¼ inch wrenches/sockets and metric tools up to 20 mm
  • Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and a clean five (5) year driving record submitted with your application
  • Michigan Chauffeur-based “BP” temporary instruction CDL permit (T.I.P.) prior to your start date
Your first 30–90 days
  • Obtain an Industrial Forklift permit within 30 days of employment
  • Earn a State of Michigan Group B CDL with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement within 90 days of hire
