Job description

Position Summary

TelePro is seeking a dependable and technically minded HVAC Controls Technician to install, troubleshoot, maintain and support commercial HVAC control and Building Automation Systems. This position is ideal for someone with HVAC, electrical or controls experience who enjoys solving problems and working with both mechanical equipment and technology.

The technician will work with controllers, sensors, actuators, control panels and communication networks to help ensure that HVAC systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently. Training may be available for candidates with strong HVAC or electrical fundamentals who are new to building automation.

Responsibilities

  • Install and service HVAC control devices, including controllers, thermostats, sensors, actuators, relays and control panels
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and low-voltage control problems
  • Read wiring diagrams, equipment submittals, mechanical plans and control schematics
  • Verify proper operation of air handlers, rooftop units, VAV boxes, chillers, boilers, pumps and related equipment
  • Test control points, sequences, alarms and equipment safeties
  • Run, label and terminate low-voltage control wiring
  • Assist with controller programming, system graphics and equipment commissioning
  • Diagnose BACnet, Modbus and other building-automation communication issues
  • Document completed work, test results, deficiencies and recommended repairs
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors and project team members
  • Follow company procedures and applicable job-site safety requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, electrical circuits or automated controls preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician experience may be substituted for HVAC experience.
  • Ability to use a digital multimeter and common hand and power tools
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams and troubleshoot low-voltage circuits
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable using laptops, mobile applications and diagnostic software
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely work from ladders or in mechanical spaces
  • Willingness to travel throughout Texas as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of HVAC, controls, electrical or building-maintenance experience
  • Technical-school training in HVAC, electrical technology, instrumentation or automation
  • EPA Section 608 certification
  • Texas HVAC technician registration or applicable state credential
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems
  • Familiarity with BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus or Ethernet networks
  • Experience with platforms such as Niagara, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, Siemens, Distech or Schneider Electric
  • Experience programming controllers, creating graphics or commissioning HVAC sequences
