Description:
The CDL Class A Driver is responsible for transporting goods using 53โ dry van trailers while maintaining strict compliance with all federal, state, and DOT regulations. This role requires safe, timely, and efficient deliveries while upholding Gavel Transportโs commitment to professionalism and safety.
Schedule: Variable Part Time Schedule
Requirements:
- Plan and execute pickups and deliveries safely, on time, and in compliance with company and DOT standards
- Collect, inspect, and secure freight to prevent damage; verify seals against Bills of Lading (BOL).
- Accurately record driving statuses in MOTIVE ELD and manage rest breaks per DOT regulations.
- Communicate proactively with Managers and Dispatch regarding delays or potential issues.
- Inspect tractors and trailers daily, report defects, and perform minor repairs as required.
- Manage fuel levels properly using the companyโs fuel/credit card per policy.
- Safely and efficiently complete drop-and-hook trailer moves.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- 2+ years of CDL driving experience required; OTR experience preferred.
- Current Class A CDL and valid DOT medical card.
- Must meet and maintain insurability under the companyโs auto insurance policy
- Experience operating day cab and sleeper tractors with 53โ trailers.
- Skilled in safely operating tractors and docking trailers in diverse conditions, weather etc.
- Must be able to remain fit for duty and exercise discretion in challenging driving conditions.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written); bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly lift 10โ50 lbs; occasionally 50+ lbs with team support.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl as required.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time.
- Meets vision requirements (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus) per DOT medical certification.
- Must be physically able to work in varying environmental conditions (hot/cold).
