Job Description
The Field Appraiser performs commercial and residential appraisal of improved and vacant land parcels to ensure that all real property in the County is properly and equitably assessed.
Essential Functions:
- Inspects and measures property to determine property value including type of construction and estimation of depreciation.
- Determines the class, quality, and condition of property.
- Maintains records related to appraisal and property taxation including but not limited to calculations of land and building areas, land usage, zoning, building areas, zoning, building permits, available utilities and topography.
- Meets with property owners or their representatives to resolve errors or explain applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepares estimated taxes including rollback for attorneys, paralegals, and others.
- Utilizes computer programs such as Pictometry, ESRI GIS, appraisal programs, and Apex sketching programs to complete appraisal assignments.
- Researches deeds and plats to verify factors such as ownership, property rights, location, and size.
- Keeps abreast of new laws or changes in regulations affecting property appraisal.
- Receives, reviews, processes, files, and/or submits a variety of documents and reports.
- Interacts and communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals.
- Operates and maintains assigned vehicle.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Completes continuing education and training as required by the S.C. Real Estate Appraisal Board.
- Prepares videos used in appeals hearings, damage assessment and other record-keeping functions.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Requires Associateโs degree in business administration, real estate appraisal, or a related field; completion of required appraisal courses and training; three to five years of experience in real estate appraising or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Pay will be consistent with the number and type of designated license level.
- Must possess a SC state real estate appraiserโs license and a valid SC state driverโs license.

- Frequently required to perform basic physical activities and communicate effectively to carry out essential job duties.
