The Opportunity:

The Transit Service Person is responsible for the daily cleaning, sanitizing, fuelling and servicing of the entire Transit fleet.

Top Key Responsibilities:

  • Fuel, check fluid levels (replenishes where required), wash exterior (using pressure washer and/or drive through washer) and clean interior of all Department vehicles, performing specific tasks as assigned.
  • Removes / replaces fare canisters and deposits coin into vault receptacle.
  • Wash and clean wash bay and vehicle storage areas as required.
  • Operate buses, para-transit vehicles and Department vans in Transit Building and compound area. 
  • May be required to do on road bus changes as a result of breakdowns.
  • Minor service bay equipment maintenance as required.
  • Reports cleaning product inventory needs to Transit Service Bay Supervisor.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Health and Safety Responsibilities:
    • As a Worker, participate in, support, and comply with the City's Health and Safety program and initiatives (e.g., training, inspections, meetings, hazard assessments, incident reporting, emergency drills), policies and procedures (including any applicable and adopted industry best practices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code).

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Minimum 6 months previous cleaning / custodial experience.

  • Must hold a Class 5 Operator's license with Air Brake endorsement. Must produce a driver's abstract showing no more than five (5) demerit points. Abstract cannot show a license suspension.

  • Knowledge of basic traffic laws and regulations pertaining to local bylaws and Highway Traffic Act. Working knowledge of city street layout is required.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgement in a variety of traffic and emergency situations.

$27.32 - $30.36 per hour

Hours of Work: 

80 hours biweekly - This role will be scheduled to work all weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and would have 2 other days off during the week.
