South Elgin High School’s Transition Program partners with local businesses who are interested in hosting exceptional young adults for supported employment experiences. Our students are motivated, reliable, and eager to contribute to the community, and your partnership helps give them meaningful opportunities to grow.

Supported Unpaid Internships (90-minute shifts):

Students participate in unpaid supported employment internships with a job coach present for the entire 90-minute shift to support training, task completion, and workplace success. For students who excel, hours may be expanded and the job coach can transition to periodic check-ins.

Candidates for Paid Employment:

While we still have many students whose employment is temporary and volunteer. We also have students ready for paid positions within the community. These students can work 5–6 hour shifts and begin with the support of a job coach. Our goal is always to build independence, with coaching gradually fading as confidence and skills grow.

• Paid employment roles in retail and restaurants
• Cleaning and sanitation tasks
• Bussing tables
• Cart retrieval
• Pulling expired items and checking expiration dates
• Stocking and facing shelves
• Warehouse and receiving tasks
• Sorting materials or products
• Filing paperwork
• Greeting/greeter or host/hostess roles
• Organizing materials or inventory
• Shredding
• Laundry tasks
• Food preparation support
• Filling customer orders
