Job description

Course Requisites

Get to know yourself.  Each student will conduct a self-evaluation

Get to know your district. Each student will conduct a staff census

Get to know your districts rules. Each student will review at least two labor agreements between the district and employee groups

Get to know your districts areas of concern. Each student will look at aggregate student success and staff behavior

Course Outcomes

I.            Future School Administrators will know how to assess employee productivity.

CEL Requirement: Future administrators know how to effectively evaluate themselves.

Evidence: Submission of artifacts from each of the six evaluation areas: background, knowledge of subject area, instructional skills, assessment, professionalism, and other services to the school.  Students who are not currently teaching will work with the instructor to modify the list.

CEL Requirement: Future administrators know how to evaluate others.

Evidence: Discussion with colleagues about their artifacts and the mutual setting of goals.

Evidence: A sharing and review of instruments of evaluation for at least two employee groups in each district represented by the students.

Required: Gullicksons  The Personnel Evalution Standards is used to guide the self-evaluation, the discussion of colleagues evaluations, and rating of the instruments of evaluation.

II.            Future School Administrators will know how to handle staff problems

CEL Requirement: Future administrators will know their districts contracts language.

Evidence: Submission of a key section from each of two district labor contracts

Required: Discuss the contents of one contract with a colleague and summarize key similarities and differences

Required: Review the evaluation section of the contract and use the Gullickson scale to rate its effectiveness

CEL Requirement: Future administrators will be able to use progressive discipline to address staff problems.

Evidence:  Identification of a real discipline issue .

Required: Know the progressive discipline steps.

Required: Post the identified problem along with the action taken.  Include the step and accompanying language.

III.            Future School Administrators will understand the scope and make-up of their districts staffs.

IV.            Future School Administrators will understand the hiring process.

V.            Future School Administrators will understand applicable State and Federal laws and mandates.
