Job description

Join Everett Ship Repair as a Marine Pipe Systems Journeyman

At Everett Ship Repair (ESR), we’re building the Pacific Northwest’s premier ship repair operation. Established in 2019 in Everett, Washington, our facility delivers repair, maintenance, and conversion services for a wide range of commercial vessels—especially commercial workboats and passenger ships. With the U.S. Navy just next door, we are ambitiously expanding our capabilities, reputation, and capacity to earn their business. You’ll work alongside a tight-knit team of seasoned ship repair pros and master tradespeople who are continually refining processes to be smarter, faster, and more reliable.

A Day in the Life

Your day starts with drawings in hand and a clear plan: fabricate and install precise pipe spools and complete piping packages that keep vessels running safely and efficiently. You might begin in the fabrication shop forming complex bends, move to modular jigs for assembly, and finish the day on a vessel, validating fit-up and supporting sea trials. Along the way, you’ll interface with systems ranging from heating and cooling to refrigeration, fuel, engine cooling, exhaust, sewage, bilge and ballast, and fire suppression.

Core Responsibilities
  • Form, fit, and fabricate metal and nonmetallic piping systems per engineering drawings through all construction and rebuild phases—from spools and installation through sea trials.
  • Work across environments: fabrication shop, modular jigs, and onboard/finished assemblies.
  • Lay out, cut, prep, and assemble spools and complete piping systems in modules and final assembly.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to specific angles using hand/power tools and machines (pipe cutters, threading machines, bending machines).
  • Operate and maintain trade tools: pipe wrenches, union wrenches, threading machines, tube and pipe benders, and more.
  • Interpret blueprints in both standard and metric to produce complex piping, spools, and foundations.
  • Perform basic tack and minor welds using MIG and Arc processes.
  • Use metal-forming equipment: shears, band saws, rollers, tube/pipe benders, and presses.
  • Cut steel, aluminum, and stainless steel with Oxygen/Propane torches.
  • Collaborate effectively—communicate clearly, adapt quickly, interpret conditions, and solve problems on the fly.
  • Champion ESR’s safety culture, following safe shipyard work practices and good housekeeping at all times.
  • Build positive working relationships with teammates and leadership.
  • Share trade knowledge with peers and apprentices; help others grow.
  • Pitch in on additional tasks as needed in our dynamic environment.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience as a Pipefitter.
  • Broad proficiency in pipefitting: fitting, tack welding, threading, bending, and laterals.
  • Hands-on knowledge of standard pipe trade tools and forming equipment (torches, cutting torch, band saw, rollers, presses, shears).
  • High school diploma/GED or vocational training.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints.
  • Basic welding (MIG and arc).
  • Understanding of HVAC piping and condensation (drain).
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tooling for building/repairing pipe assemblies.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • Basic hydraulics knowledge.
  • Experience with sewage piping systems.
  • Interest and aptitude for future crew leadership opportunities.
  • Experience with tubing and precision bending.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work at heights of 60 ft.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces using a respirator and work in tight areas at odd angles.
  • Ability to pass company pre-employment screens in background check, drug test, and physical skills test.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Aluminum and steel fabrication experience.
  • Prior shipyard (new construction or repair) background.
  • Plasma cutter experience.
  • Licenses/certifications or experience operating forklifts or manlifts.
  • Shipyard Competent Person certification.
