Ready to be at the heart of a zero-carbon energy future?
As a Control Room Operator at Drax, you'll play a key role in keeping our pellet operations running safely, efficiently, and effectively. From monitoring plant systems and production processes to coordinating with team members across the site, you'll help ensure consistent operations, strong communication, and a safe working environment every shift.
Why join Drax?
At Drax, we're not just generating power; we're transforming it. We're a diverse, committed team working together to create a brighter, more sustainable future. When you join us, you'll find:
  • A Clear Purpose: Be part of a company at the forefront of sustainable energy, making a real difference for the planet and our communities.
  • Growth Opportunities: We believe in developing our people.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: From day one, you'll receive competitive wages, comprehensive health and dental benefits, and an RRSP matching plan to support your financial goals. You'll also participate in a company bonus plan that rewards overall Drax performance and safety.
  • A Supportive Team: Work in an environment where continuous learning is encouraged, and your contributions are valued. We're a 'can-do' kind of place, empowering you to make informed decisions and do the right thing.

Your Day-to-Day as a Control Room Operator?
Using HMI tools, you will monitor all incoming fiber, manage the drying processes and production of pellets and finally the movement of pellets into railcars. You must also monitor and communicate any safety-related concerns directly to plant employees or the Plant Leadership team.
As part of your duties, you will:
  • Uphold Drax's housekeeping standards by involving all team members. Utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure training for employees. Complete safety training for the Plant Operator Development Program as needed. Use company radios for clear communication, and engage in the Drax Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee. Support compliance with safety, production, quality, and operational policies throughout the pellet manufacturing process. Stay composed during emergencies and troubleshoot issues for plant employees.
  • Provide training and mentorship to peers and Operators in the Plant Operator Development Program.
  • Take a leadership role in training for mobile equipment, confined spaces, and hazard identification.
  • Assist in incident investigations as required.
  • Coordinate holiday planning for continuous coverage of essential plant positions.
  • Liaise with Drax management, including HR, Safety, and Senior Executives.
  • Lead plant employees in the safe operation of pellet-making equipment by monitoring moisture, pellet temperatures, and other production factors. Operations start with the scale, tippers, and in-feed pads for raw fiber delivery.
  • Adjust in-feed mixes and direct Loader Operators based on fiber type and moisture.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) system.
  • Review shift notes with the cross-shift Operator and communicate fiber mixes, equipment efficiencies, and any issues.
  • Coordinate with the Loader Operator and Production Team Leads to ensure adequate fiber supply.
  • Communicate housekeeping needs to maintain cleanliness and reduce dust accumulation.
  • Conduct moisture testing and report findings.
  • Instruct employees on which mix to receive and when to load rail cars.

Who you are?
You possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:
  • Able to operate mobile equipment safely and efficiently
  • Can complete forms and basic checklists associated with cleanup and rail car loading
  • Adaptable to changes in work schedules or work tasks
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
