Job description

The Role

This is a hybrid role: most of your time is in our Tempe facility programming, integrating, and running factory acceptance testing, and roughly 20–30% is on customer sites installing equipment, leading startups, and resolving service calls. On site you are often the only Delta representative — when a line is down, you diagnose it, fix it, explain it clearly, and make sure it does not happen again.

What You’ll Do

● Program and integrate — Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs (Studio 5000, RSLogix) primarily, with Siemens and Beckhoff as projects require; FANUC robots and cobots; HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk View, Ignition); VFDs, servo/motion, vision, and industrial networks.

● Build, test, and commission — panel checkout, system start-up, and FAT in our shop; installation, startup, SAT, and operator training at customer sites; robot mastering and TCP calibration, alignment, and cycle-time optimization.

● Troubleshoot to root cause — electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and software faults; read and redline schematics and assembly drawings; respond to customer-down calls with urgency and sound judgment.

● Maintain and service — preventative maintenance, calibration to specification, component replacement, retrofits, upgrades, and warranty work.

● Document and communicate — accurate service reports, call logs, parts records, program backups, and as-built documentation; explain findings, scope, timelines, and costs directly to customer maintenance and plant management; feed field lessons back to our design team.

● Work safely — LOTO, NFPA 70E arc-flash practices, ANSI/RIA R15.06 robot safety, and machine safeguarding; verify light curtains, safety relays, interlocks, and e-stops before releasing a system to production.

What You Need

● AAS in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Industrial Technology; BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering; or equivalent military or trade experience. Navy, Air Force, and Army electronics and avionics technicians are strongly encouraged to apply.

● 3+ years in industrial automation, controls, machine integration, or field service, with demonstrated Allen-Bradley PLC programming and robot programming or troubleshooting (FANUC preferred).

● Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings; working knowledge of 24VDC control circuits, 120/240/480VAC power, motor starters, and safety circuits.

● Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR; ability to travel domestically by car and air; ability to pass customer background checks, drug screening, and site badging.

● Clear communication, professional presence with customers, and the judgment to work independently on site.

A plus: Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or Omron; cobots (UR, FANUC CRX); machine vision (Cognex, Keyence); Ignition; industrial networking; NFPA 70E or OSHA 10/30; regulated-industry experience.

Travel & Working Conditions

Travel runs about 20–30% annually, weighted toward installation and commissioning — regional drive-in work across Arizona and the Southwest plus national fly-out trips of three to ten days, with occasional short-notice customer-down support. Startups sometimes require nights, weekends, or shutdown coverage; this is compensated, and travel expenses are covered. The work involves lifting up to 50 lbs, extended standing on plant floors, ladders and lifts, occasional confined-space entry, and working around energized panels and moving machinery in environments that may include noise, dust, heat, cold, or clean-room gowning

Compensation & Benefits

Salary is dependent on experience and demonstrated capability. Overtime eligibility for after-hours and weekend work; per diem on all travel days, mileage, laptop, paid Rockwell and FANUC training.
