Position Summary
The Physical Education Teacher and Advanced Physical Conditioning Instructor is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes lifelong fitness, physical wellness, healthy lifestyles, and personal responsibility. This position teaches physical education courses at both the middle school and high school levels and provides specialized instruction in Advanced Physical Conditioning, focusing on strength training, athletic performance, injury prevention, and overall physical development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Physical Education Instruction
  • Develop and deliver standards-based physical education curriculum aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Teach a variety of individual and team sports, fitness activities, and wellness concepts.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of performance and participation.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilities.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that encourage active participation and respect.

Advanced Physical Conditioning
  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs appropriate for student-athletes and non-athletes.
  • Teach proper weightlifting techniques, exercise safety, and injury prevention practices.
  • Monitor student progress through fitness assessments and performance tracking.
  • Instruct students in cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, agility, speed, and strength development.
  • Promote goal setting and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Maintain and supervise the weight room and conditioning equipment.

Student Support and Supervision
  • Supervise students during classes, locker room activities, and fitness facilities.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Support school initiatives related to student wellness and character development.
  • Participate in student intervention and support processes as needed.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain required Indiana teaching licensure and certifications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, and required trainings.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Utilize technology to enhance instruction and maintain student records.
  • Follow all corporation policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Qualifications
  • Valid Indiana Teaching License with Physical Education endorsement.
  • Knowledge of current physical education, fitness, and conditioning practices.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in strength and conditioning, athletic coaching, or related fields preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate physical activities and exercises.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to supervise students in gymnasiums, outdoor facilities, and weight rooms.
