Position Summary

Delaware Express Shuttle amp; Tours seeks a dependable Light Duty Mechanic to service and maintain our fleet of passenger vans and sedan vehicles. The ideal candidate will ensure that our vehicles are always safe, reliable, and well-maintained through routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and timely repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on light-duty vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, tire rotations, and brake service.

  • Conduct regular inspections (pre-trip, post-trip, and scheduled) to check for safety issues, wear, and performance problems.

  • Use computerized diagnostic tools and visual inspection to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.

  • Repair or replace faulty components (e.g., belts, brakes, hoses, batteries, spark plugs, suspension parts).

  • Perform minor engine and transmission maintenance or repairs as needed.

  • Translate technical issues into clear, understandable explanations for non-technical colleagues or customers; advise on recommended repairs or maintenance.

  • Stay current on evolving automotive technologies, repair techniques, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work area; adhere to proper safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Manage inventory of common parts, order replacements, and document parts usage.

  • Record all maintenance and repair work accurately in work orders or fleet management system.

  • Assist in roadside or mobile repairs when needed, as part of our fleet’s operational support.

  • Communicate with management and other team members to schedule vehicle maintenance so as to minimize vehicle downtime.

Required Skills amp; Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with vehicle systems (engine, brakes, steering, suspension, etc.).

  • Ability to lift and maneuver parts (tires, batteries, etc.), and perform physically demanding tasks (bending, kneeling, lifting).

  • Strong customer service skills and a friendly, professional demeanor.

  • Good communication skills — both verbal and written — to explain mechanical issues and repairs.

  • Organizational skills to maintain a clean workspace and proper documentation of work orders.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and repair methods.

  • Flexibility to work holidays and weekends when needed and to be on call for road service if needed.
Preferred (but Not Required)
  • Formal training from a technical or vocational school.

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or other relevant credentials.

  • Experience working on fleet vehicles, shuttles, or passenger vans.

  • Previous experience with computerized diagnostic tools.

Working Conditions
  • Work performed in an indoor shop and potentially outdoors, depending on repair or roadside needs.

  • Exposure to grease, oil, exhaust, noise, and other automotive shop hazards.

  • Occasional after-hours, weekend, or on-call work may be required to support fleet operations.

  • Must follow all safety procedures (e.g., using jack stands, PPE, proper tool handling).

Why Work with Delaware Express Shuttle amp; Tours?
  • Join a growing, locally based transportation company dedicated to reliability and customer satisfaction.

  • Work hands-on with a fleet of passenger vehicles — valuable experience in light-duty maintenance.

  • Opportunity for professional development, including certifications or training support.
