Installation Technician - Field Deployment
DecisionPoint Technologies is seeking a Field Installation Technician to install and deploy Point of Sales hardware, and low-voltage network infrastructure at customer locations across the Midwest. Technicians perform structured cabling installs, configure retail technology equipment, and support large-scale retail and distribution center deployments. This is a field-based role supporting nationwide customer projects, primarily in retail and logistics environments. Travel expenses, lodging, and per diem are covered.
"Remote" refers to reporting structure only; this is not a work-from-home position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Install structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber)
- Install POS terminals and peripherals
- Run and terminate low-voltage cable
- Configure routers, switches, and wireless equipment
- Conduct retail store technology rollouts

Troubleshoot read accuracy issues, signal interference, hardware failures, and system connectivity problems
Install and configure POS terminals, routers, switches, wireless access points, and related hardware
Perform structured cabling installations including pulling, routing, terminating, labeling, and testing Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cable
Conduct site surveys and assess installation environments to identify risks and deployment challenges
Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
Maintain accurate installation documentation, as-built reports, and service records
Manage company tools, test equipment, and job site materials
Adhere to safety standards, PPE requirements, and company compliance guidelines while operating in active warehouse and retail environments
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience working in warehouse, retail, or distribution center settings preferred
Demonstrated ability to work independently on active field job sites without direct supervision
Strong troubleshooting skills in networking, hardware installation, and system connectivity
Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and wiring schematics
Proficiency using powered hand tools, cable testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Ability to travel extensively within the Midwest region (approximately 80-85%)
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 75 pounds
Preferred certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, BICSI, OSHA 10/30, or relevant manufacturer credentials
Experience with RFID deployments, inventory tracking systems, warehouse automation, or large-scale retail rollouts strongly preferred
