Job description

The Transmission Builder is responsible for assembling remanufactured transmissions using cleaned, inspected, and refurbished components. This role ensures each unit is built to precise specifications, meets quality standards, and is ready for testing and final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble transmission units from component parts following detailed build specifications
  • Install components such as gears, clutches, seals, valve bodies, and housings
  • Use hand tools, torque wrenches, and specialized equipment to ensure proper assembly
  • Verify clearances, tolerances, and torque specifications
  • Inspect parts prior to installation to ensure quality standards are met
  • Follow standardized work instructions, diagrams, and build sheets
  • Identify and report defective or non-conforming parts
  • Maintain accurate production records (if required)
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
  • Meet daily production and quality goals
  • Build accuracy and consistency
  • Meeting torque and specification requirements
  • Quality control and defect prevention
  • Be on time and ready to work each day
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Communicate effectively and work responsibly
  • Additional duties as assigned by management to support operations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous automotive, mechanical, or assembly experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions
  • Experience using hand tools and torque tools
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent lifting of 40–75 lbs
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Ability to work with tools and small components

Work Environment

  • Industrial / remanufacturing facility
  • Exposure to oils, grease, and mechanical equipment
  • Moderate to high noise levels
  • Required use of PPE (hearing protection, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, etc.)
