DescriptionThe Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Hofstra University invites applications for a 12-month full-time, Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Clinical Education (ADCE) in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. ADCE will report to the Chair of the Department of Allied Health and Kinesiology, and Director of the DPT Program with direct supervision from the Director of Clinical Education, who is responsible for the planning, coordination, administration, and monitoring of the clinical component of the physical therapy program. This full-time position includes teaching and administrative responsibilities related to clinical education, such as overseeing clinical experiences, serving as a liaison between Hofstra's DPT program and existing clinical sites, and developing new clinical site relationships. Service expectations include submitting and drafting documents for accreditation of the DPT program specific to academic and administrative roles in the department relative to clinical education, and academic advising, participating in program, departmental, university, and community committees, and other appropriate responsibilities. The anticipated start date for this position is April 1, 2026.

The new faculty member will join the team at an exciting time. The DPT program is located in a newly renovated spaces, including new faculty offices, a custom-designed research lab, and state-of-the-art instructional spaces. Spaces support diverse teaching and scholarship agendas through a variety of cutting-edge resources and equipment, including an eight-camera VICON motion analysis system, Bertec force plates, a GAITRite instrumented walkway, CORTECH brain flow measurement system, and Virtualis' virtual reality system.
The DPT program is housed within the Hofstra University School of Health Sciences which has a strong presence in the education of varied health professionals in the Long Island region.
QualificationsThe successful candidate for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Clinical Education will possess the following:
- An earned entry level doctoral degree (DPT) from a CAPTE accredited university.
- Must be a Physical Therapist who is licensed in the United States. Must be eligible for, or currently possess physical therapy licensure in New York State.
- Active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Record of service and student engagement.
- A minimum of 3 years full-time (or equivalent) of post-licensure clinical practice and a minimum of 2 years' serving as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education and/or Clinical Instructor, or experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a PT program.
- Commitment to the development of strong academic-clinical partnerships by enlisting clinical education sites across a variety of patient populations and practice settings and supporting their engagement with our students during clinical integration experiences.
- Commitment to ensuring that the clinical education component of the curriculum maintains compliance with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policies, and placement site policies.
Preferred Quals Summary - Demonstrated record in student advisement, scholarship, and service.
- Board specialist certification in physical therapy.
- Teaching experience in a doctoral physical therapy program.
- Actively involved in the physical therapy profession or interested in becoming engaged in the APTA and its academies and/or chapters.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, physical therapy accreditation criteria (CAPTE) related to the clinical education curriculum and state agency regulations is preferred.
- Familiarity with the details of clinical education and practicum site establishment.
- Enrolled in a Post-professional degree or interested in enrolling in a Post-professional degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, ScD).

Salary/Salary Range $90,000-$100,000 plus 6 sh of release time

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
