Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE - Missile Systems)
Location: Beavercreek (Dayton), Ohio
Employment Type: Full-Time
Clearance: Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility required; CI Polygraph preferred
Company: Cornerstone Signals & Cyber Technologies LLC
About Cornerstone
Cornerstone Signals & Cyber Technologies LLC is a certified Small Business, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB), and Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) providing engineering, technical, advisory, intelligence, and program management services to Federal Government customers.
Our professionals support mission-critical national security programs across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Federal civilian agencies, delivering innovative engineering and Digital Engineering solutions that improve mission effectiveness and accelerate technology modernization.
Position Summary
Cornerstone is seeking an experienced Senior Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support a Digital Engineering (DE) modernization effort focused on migrating legacy Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) tools, algorithms, applications, and engineering processes into a cloud-native Digital Engineering pipeline.
The successful candidate will support Government customers in developing, updating, and refactoring SysML-based models and reusable model libraries representing complete end-to-end missile systems. Working alongside Government engineers and subject matter experts, the engineer will help modernize missile performance analysis capabilities by implementing scalable Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies that improve engineering rigor, reusability, and decision-making across advanced weapon system programs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Scope the effort required to represent existing missile engineering data within a SysML-based MBSE environment.
  • Develop, update, and maintain complete end-to-end missile system models using SysML.
  • Create reusable SysML model libraries supporting Digital Engineering initiatives.
  • Develop scalable and repeatable workflows for generating new missile system models.
  • Apply, test, validate, and refine MBSE workflows using representative missile system use cases.
  • Collaborate closely with Government engineers and subject matter experts to optimize SysML model development processes.
  • Support migration of legacy Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) capabilities into a cloud-native Digital Engineering environment.
  • Define and maintain system requirements including performance characteristics such as Circular Error Probable (CEP).
  • Develop structural models including mass properties, center of gravity, and moments of inertia.
  • Model parametric characteristics including propulsion performance, thrust, specific impulse, and related system attributes.
  • Support Digital Engineering transformation initiatives that improve engineering efficiency, model reuse, and analytical consistency.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design discussions, and engineering trade studies supporting advanced missile system development.
This position directly contributes to the modernization of missile performance modeling and supports the Government's long-term Digital Engineering strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to aerospace, mechanical, defense, or comparable engineering systems.
  • Experience developing models using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
  • Experience with one or more MBSE tools including:
    • Cameo Systems Modeler
    • MagicDraw
    • Enterprise Architect
  • Formal MBSE training or certification (INCOSE, OMG, or equivalent).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define modeling requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to support Government adoption of MBSE methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8 or more years of Systems Engineering experience supporting Department of Defense programs.
  • 3 or more years developing SysML models for aerospace or missile system applications.
  • Experience supporting:
    • Missile Performance Analysis
    • Rocket propulsion systems
    • Solid rocket motors
    • Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC)
    • Sensor systems including phased-array radar
  • Experience creating reusable SysML model libraries.
  • Experience migrating legacy engineering tools into Digital Engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting cloud-native Digital Engineering ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting advanced weapons system modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A).
  • Familiarity with Digital Engineering implementation across the DoD acquisition lifecycle.
Security Requirements
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
  • Current CI Polygraph is highly desired.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
