Job Summary


Cogency Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Apigee Tech Lead to lead API modernization, governance, and migration initiatives for enterprise-scale integration platforms. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Apigee, API architecture, integration patterns, CI/CD automation, and technical leadership.

This role will be responsible for defining API standards, governing development quality across delivery teams, leading complex API migrations, and driving best practices for secure, scalable, and high-performing API ecosystems.


Key Responsibilities


API Architecture & Governance


  • Define reusable API design standards, proxy patterns, shared flow templates, and migration approaches from Azure APIM to Apigee.
  • Establish API governance standards, security controls, and development best practices.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects and Security teams to align API solutions with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Drive API lifecycle management and API-first design principles.


Technical Leadership


  • Lead and govern development quality across multiple Agile PODs.
  • Conduct code reviews, PR approvals, and enforce engineering standards.
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to developers, testers, and client teams.
  • Drive sprint-level technical decisions and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Escalate architectural concerns and risks to the Apigee Architect when required.


API Development & Migration


  • Lead technical execution of complex API migrations from Azure APIM to Apigee.
  • Design and develop APIs supporting:
  • RESTful Services
  • GraphQL APIs
  • SOAP Services
  • XML-based Integrations
  • Implement reusable API proxies, policies, shared flows, target servers, and key-value maps.
  • Design secure integration patterns for PII-sensitive and regulated workloads.


DevOps & Automation


  • Build and maintain CI/CD standards using GitHub Actions.
  • Implement automated build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve deployment reliability and platform scalability.
  • Support API monitoring, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.


Security & Compliance


  • Collaborate with Security Architects to embed security controls within API proxies and shared flows.
  • Ensure APIs adhere to enterprise security standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, rate limiting, threat protection, and encryption controls.


Required Qualifications


  • 8+ years of experience in API development, integration, and middleware technologies.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with:
  • Apigee Edge
  • Apigee Hybrid
  • Apigee X
  • Strong expertise in:
  • API Proxy Development
  • Shared Flows
  • Policies
  • Target Servers
  • Key Value Maps (KVM)
  • Strong programming experience with:

Preferred Qualifications


  • Google Apigee Professional API Engineer Certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with OpenAPI specifications and API catalog management tools.
  • Experience with Apigee Hybrid deployments on GCP or Azure.
  • Previous experience with Azure API Management (APIM).
  • Exposure to cloud-native architectures and microservices ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, and API security frameworks.
