About This Role

Cheyenne’s Early Learning Center, a NAEYC-accredited and Connecticut OEC-licensed early childhood program, is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and enthusiastic Preschool Teacher or Assistant Teacher to join our team.

We are looking for a long-term team member who is passionate about early childhood education and committed to creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, patient, flexible, and willing to collaborate with coworkers and families to support each child’s individual growth and development.

Candidates with early childhood education coursework, a CDA, an OEC credential, or an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates currently enrolled in an ECE program will also be considered.

We offer:

  • A supportive and caring team environment
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Support for continuing your early childhood education
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement
  • Paid time off
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families

Compensation is based on education, credentials, qualifications, and relevant childcare experience.

To apply, please send your résumé. Qualified candidates will be contacted to complete CELC’s employment application and schedule an interview.

What You'll Do
  • Create a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels safe, supported, and valued.
  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support children’s physical, cognitive, language, social, and emotional development.
  • Maintain consistent classroom routines while adjusting activities and expectations to meet the individual needs and interests of the children.
  • Provide active supervision and ensure children’s health, safety, and well-being throughout the day.
  • Use positive guidance strategies to help children develop appropriate behaviors, emotional regulation, independence, and problem-solving skills.
  • Observe children, document their progress, and use those observations to guide classroom planning and instruction.
  • Communicate professionally with families regarding their child’s daily experiences, development, accomplishments, and areas of need.
  • Build respectful partnerships with families and encourage their involvement in the classroom and program.
  • Support the meaningful inclusion of children with different abilities, learning styles, developmental needs, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom staff, administrators, and support professionals to provide consistent, high-quality care.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, attractive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Follow all CELC policies and procedures and comply with Connecticut OEC licensing requirements and NAEYC standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, classroom observations, and program improvement efforts.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or early-learning setting is preferred.
  • ECE coursework, CDA, OEC credential, Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, or current enrollment in an ECE program is strongly preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a classroom and center-wide team.
  • A patient, nurturing, flexible, and professional approach to working with children and families.
