Role Description Chess Instructors at Chesslings Academy lead in-person classes and training sessions for students at various skill levels in Rockland county, NY as well as surroundings. This full-time, on-site role involves preparing lesson plans, teaching core chess concepts, demonstrating strategies and tactics, and guiding students through practice games and exercises. Instructors provide individualized feedback, monitor progress, and adjust instruction to different learning styles and ages. The role also includes communicating with families or caregivers about student development, supporting tournaments or events, and maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom environment. Also may need ability to work online.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in chess, including openings, tactics, strategy, and endgames.
  • Ability to teach and tutor effectively, with experience in classroom instruction or small-group training.
  • Comfort with basic mathematics and logical reasoning to support problem-solving and game analysis.
  • Skill in designing training activities and practice plans that engage diverse learners.
  • Clear, patient communication skills and the ability to explain concepts in simple, accessible terms.
  • Prior experience working with children, teens, or adult learners in an educational or coaching setting.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professional conduct, and strong organizational skills.
