Job description

District School Nurse

The District School Nurse provides leadership and oversight for student health services across multiple campuses while also supporting direct nursing services as needed. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations; develops and implements standardized nursing practices; supports school nurses and health office staff; and collaborates with school leaders to promote safe, healthy learning environments for all students.

District Health Services Leadership
  • Coordinate and oversee school health services across all CASLV campuses.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor standardized health office procedures, protocols, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations, including Nevada Department of Education and Southern Nevada Health District requirements.
  • Monitor district-wide health trends and recommend improvements to student health services.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of district health policies and procedures.
Clinical Nursing Services
  • Provide direct nursing services at assigned campuses as needed.
  • Assess and manage student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
  • Develop and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and medication administration plans.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 meetings as the health services representative.
  • Monitor immunization compliance and required student health screenings.
Training & Supervision
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to campus school nurses and health office staff.
  • Coordinate onboarding and professional development for nursing personnel.
  • Conduct staff training on CPR, First Aid, medication administration, infection control, communicable diseases, and emergency response procedures.
  • Promote consistency in nursing documentation and clinical practices across all campuses.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Serve as the district liaison with healthcare providers, public health agencies, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with principals, special education staff, counselors, and families to support student health needs.
  • Support communicable disease management, public health reporting, and emergency preparedness planning.
  • Promote wellness initiatives and health education programs for students and staff.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidential health records in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA requirements.
  • Monitor health office inventories, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with health services budgeting and purchasing recommendations.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required.
Other Duties
  • Maintain current nursing licensure and required certifications.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Nevada.
  • Nevada School Nurse Endorsement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, including school or pediatric nursing.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and school health regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Education, or related field.
  • Previous experience supervising nursing staff.
  • Experience working in K-12 educational settings.
  • CPR Instructor certification.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.

Work Environment

The District School Nurse works in school and office environments with frequent travel between campuses. The position requires responding to medical emergencies, exposure to communicable illnesses, prolonged periods of standing, walking, and computer work, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
