Job description

Automotive Glazing Systems Release Engineer (GM Programs)

Picture a typical week: you begin on-site at a General Motors facility as Carlex’s SI3 DRE, reviewing a pre-production build. After verifying tolerances on a fixed glass assembly, you huddle with the OEM body, interior trim, and electrical teams to finalize an interface change. Midweek, you’re back at a Carlex design center turning full-solid CAD models into releasable 2D/3D data, facilitating a DFMEA session, and preparing a concise design review for the cross-functional team. By Friday, you’re at a designated test facility validating a door glass system against negotiated specs and documenting findings for the program team and OEM.

What you will own
  • Lead all engineering and design activities for Carlex as the SI3 DRE at General Motors.
  • Manage assigned programs (internal/external) from SOR award through Program Launch and into maintenance.
  • Develop and release full-solid CAD models and drawings for fixed and door glass systems per Carlex and OEM best practices.
  • Facilitate DFMEA and formal design reviews; capture, track, and present actions and decisions to the program team, OEM, and internal CFT members.
  • Authorize release of 2D & 3D data created by designers for assemblies and components.
  • Provide on-site support at OEM facilities, off-site design locations, OEM test facilities, and vehicle assembly plants as needed to meet milestones.
  • Support prototyping at glass plants, value-add plants, and component supplier locations.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between Carlex manufacturing plants, suppliers, and the OEM customer.
  • Negotiate technical specifications, tolerances, and alternative design proposals with OEM stakeholders.
  • Lead Product Development Team (PDT) meetings with OEM partners and internally with Program Management.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Design/Engineering.
Experience
  • 5+ years in automotive products; glazing product experience is a plus.
  • 5+ years in automotive product design and GD&T using CAD tools (Unigraphics/NX required; CATIA is a plus).
  • Experience with major automotive OEMs is a plus.
  • Teamcenter experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with General Motors design and engineering release systems.
Other requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required for business travel.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
Key competencies
  • Advanced to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving and analytical work.
  • Strong analytical capability with clear written and verbal communication.
  • Collaborative team player who builds consensus and resolves issues quickly.
  • High level of ownership, reliability, and work ethic.
  • Commitment to Carlex values: Safety, Customer Focused, Teamwork, Excellence, and Trust.
Legal & compliance Other Requirements:

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
