Additional Information:

The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operation, and day-to-day management of the hotel to ensure optimum performance and continuous improvement in the following key result areas:

  • Guest satisfaction
  • Financial performance and profitability
  • Sales and marketing
  • Property appearance and asset preservation
  • Employee engagement, development, and retention

The General Manager is committed to operating the hotel Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Choice Hotels brand standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for implementing operational strategies that maximize revenue, control expenses, protect company assets, and deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operations

  • Implement the approved operating and financial plan for the hotel using company best practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Direct all day-to-day hotel operations, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Breakfast, Sales, and Accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with all Choice Hotels brand standards, QA inspections, and franchise requirements.
  • Conduct daily property inspections to ensure exceptional cleanliness, maintenance, curb appeal, and guest safety.
  • Maintain compliance with all health, fire, OSHA, and safety regulations.


Revenue Management & Sales

  • Work closely with revenue management to optimize pricing strategies and maximize RevPAR.
  • Monitor competitor pricing, market trends, and demand patterns.
  • Develop and execute local sales initiatives to increase occupancy and market share.
  • Build relationships with corporate accounts, local businesses, travel organizations, and community partners.
  • Monitor online reputation and ensure timely responses to guest reviews.

Guest Service

  • Maintain superior guest satisfaction scores through proactive service recovery and continuous staff coaching.
  • Resolve guest complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Foster a guest-first culture throughout the hotel.
  • Monitor service standards and implement improvements when necessary.

Human Resources

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop hotel associates.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and employee coaching sessions.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and manage labor productivity.
  • Promote employee engagement, recognition, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, employment laws, and workplace safety standards.

Property & Asset Management

  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs are fully implemented.
  • Protect and maintain all hotel assets, equipment, furniture, fixtures, and grounds.
  • Coordinate renovations, capital improvement projects, and vendor services.
  • Ensure the hotel consistently presents a clean, safe, and well-maintained appearance.

Administration

  • Prepare and submit all required operational, financial, payroll, and performance reports accurately and on time.
  • Conduct regular department meetings and communicate company objectives effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, franchise requirements, and government regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of hotel General Manager or Assistant General Manager experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, financial, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with hotel Property Management Systems (PMS), revenue management,
  • Ability to analyze financial reports and implement corrective action plans.
  • Strong customer service, sales, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.

The General Manager is expected to lead by example, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and ensure the hotel consistently achieves operational excellence, financial success, employee engagement, and outstanding guest satisfaction.
