Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Driver will be responsible for transporting students in a safe and efficient manner between the two university campuses according to the designated routes.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Safely transport students to and from their destinations within the designated campus routes in an efficient manner
  • May assist disabled students into and out of vehicle; may secure wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip
  • Operates radio to communicate with the Transit Office or other vehicles
  • Keeps track of passenger headcount and accurately completes all assigned paperwork
  • Responsible for filling the buses with fuel daily
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle, reporting any problems to the appropriate personnel
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transit

QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent; valid Illinois Class c Commercial Driver's License (CDL); experience in operation of commercial vehicles; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess considerable knowledge of the operation of commercial vehicles; knowledge of traffic laws and safety requirements; skill in dealing with the public on a daily basis; ability to understand and follow oral and written communications; ability to document in writing work completed or repairs needed; ability to work under varied weather conditions; and ability to perform physical activities constantly at a very heavy demand level.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands and fingers to handle, feel and make fine adjustments, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to operate power lift, load passengers with disabilities onto lift, and secure wheelchair and passenger within the bus according to DOT guidelines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work under varied weather conditions.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
Employee shall reside within the boundaries of Adams County, Illinois within six months of the effective date of employment with the City of Quincy.
