Position Summary

An Electrical Superintendent is the primary jobsite supervisor with operational responsibility for employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment for small to mid‑sized ground‑up projects or tenant finish projects where complex coordination of multiple subordinate supervisors and crews is not required. This is a safety‑sensitive position.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all CEC field trades on an electrical construction project.
  • Does a working estimate and take‑off jointly with the Project Manager.
  • Lays out work for subordinate supervisors and lead persons and is jointly responsible with the Project Manager for having material, tools, equipment, information, and appropriate manpower in the proper place in a timely fashion.
  • Establishes work schedules and man‑loading charts.
  • Interfaces with representatives of the General Contractor on day‑to‑day project scheduling and overall performance issues.
  • Provides general supervision to subordinate foremen engaged in the installation of electrical feeders, pumps, motors, generators, control and distribution apparatus such as switchgear, relays, and circuit breaker panels, lighting fixtures and outlets, and related connections and terminations.
  • Monitors work as performed, directs subordinate supervisors and crews, and schedules work according to the pace of the job and other trades.
  • Handles or oversees the disposition of required office correspondence and administrative paperwork such as official forms, daily reports, time sheets/tickets, safety reports, etc.
  • Is responsible for overall project safety performance, ensuring employees are properly trained or instructed, compliance with all CEC safety processes and protocols, and assisting with investigation and reporting of any accident or safety incidents involving jobsite employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects, and smooth operation of the department.
Qualifications
  • Must possess all skills of lower-rated positions including Foreman, Journeyman, T2, H2.
  • Six or more years of commercial/industrial electrical experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Comprehend reading and drawing prints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  • Utilize all power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
  • Operate wire tuggers and hydraulic benders.
  • Dig trenches using hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operate all equipment including trenchers, backhoes, and lift trucks safely.
  • Follow safe work procedures as outlined in CEC Safety Policy Handbook, Haz‑Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
  • Operate two‑handed tools/equipment: cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers.
  • Operate company vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work‑site directions, and written instructions.
  • Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, both electric and gasoline‑powered.
  • Work energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in CEC Safety Policy.
  • Install and make branch wire terminations in junction boxes and panel boards.
  • Install and make feeder wire terminations in junction boxes and switch boards.
Work Environment

The job may be performed inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements; in restricted or confined spaces; on slippery or uneven surfaces; involving ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks; and customary heavy‑construction exposures. The role also includes office duties and the routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands
  • Traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, standing, or stretching.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Move about on feet regularly; sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work at a computer for extended periods.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction‑site dangers.
  • Talk and hear; ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  • Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception). Good hearing (normal or corrected).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) as required.
  • Work eight hours a day, forty hours per week, and overtime as required—including night shifts and on‑call duty to address delays, emergencies, and bad weather.
  • Work in the presence of customers and their representatives with minimal interference or disruption.
