Job description

Construction EstimatorThe Opportunity

BGC | G&G is growing our estimating team and is looking to hire multiple Construction Estimators at different experience levels, from developing Junior Estimators through experienced Estimators who can take on greater ownership of the bidding and preconstruction process.

If you have construction industry experience and want to build a career in estimating, we want to hear from you.

You may be early in your estimating career and looking for an opportunity to learn from an experienced team, or you may already have several years of commercial construction estimating experience and be ready to manage more complex bids independently.

Your responsibilities and compensation will be based on your experience, technical knowledge, and ability to contribute to the estimating process.

What You'll Do

Depending on your experience level, responsibilities may include:

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Perform material takeoffs and labor estimates
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and project site visits
  • Help establish complete project scopes of work
  • Solicit and review subcontractor and vendor pricing
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors
  • Prepare conceptual budgets and preliminary pricing
  • Assist with or manage RFIs, RFPs, and bid-related correspondence
  • Support public and private construction bidding processes
  • Identify scope gaps, pricing questions, and potential project risks
  • Organize bid information and maintain accurate estimating documentation
  • Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to clarify scope and pricing
  • Manage multiple estimates and deadlines at the same time
  • Coordinate with project management and company leadership during the estimating and preconstruction process

More experienced Estimators may also:

  • Take ownership of complete commercial construction estimates
  • Develop detailed project budgets
  • Analyze subcontractor bids and identify scope coverage
  • Lead pre-bid and scope review meetings
  • Manage multiple active bids simultaneously
  • Provide value-engineering ideas and alternative pricing strategies
  • Assist with bid strategy and project pursuit decisions
  • Support negotiated and design-build opportunities
  • Help develop estimating standards, processes, and junior team members
What We're Looking For

We are open to candidates at different stages of their construction estimating career.

Strong candidates may bring:

  • Construction industry experience
  • Commercial construction experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications
  • Exposure to material takeoffs, labor estimating, or subcontractor pricing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Comfort communicating with subcontractors, vendors, architects, owners, and internal project teams
  • Strong computer skills
  • A willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility

For Junior Estimator-level candidates, previous estimating experience is helpful but does not need to be extensive if you have a strong construction foundation and the ability to learn.

For more experienced Estimator candidates, several years of commercial construction estimating experience and the ability to independently manage larger or more complex bids is especially valuable.

An associate degree or related construction education can be helpful, but relevant construction experience may also qualify you.

Technology

Experience with the following tools is helpful:

  • Procore
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Construction estimating or project management software

Procore experience is preferred, but strong construction and estimating experience matters more than familiarity with one specific platform.

The Kind of Person Who Does Well Here

Successful estimators are curious, organized, and detail-oriented.

They enjoy reviewing plans, asking questions, comparing pricing, communicating with subcontractors, and figuring out what it will actually take to build a project successfully.

They are comfortable managing deadlines without losing sight of the details.

We are looking for people who want to understand the entire construction process -- not simply enter numbers into a spreadsheet.

If you are early in your estimating career, this is an opportunity to develop practical experience with real commercial construction bids.

If you are already an experienced Estimator, you can take on greater responsibility for larger, more complex projects and contribute more directly to the company's preconstruction and bidding strategy.

About BGC | G&G

BuilderGuru Contracting, Inc. and Gardiner & Gardiner Contracting, LLC. -- BGC | G&G -- is an established general contractor serving the Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia markets.

Our construction history dates back to 1935. Today, our work includes ground-up construction, renovations, design-build, construction management, tenant improvements, and a variety of commercial and institutional projects.

Our estimating team plays an important role in how those projects begin.

Our philosophy is simple:

Compensation

Salary: $60,000-$110,000 per year

Compensation will depend on your construction estimating experience, technical knowledge, ability to independently manage bids, project complexity, and overall level of responsibility.

Junior Estimator-level candidates may fall toward the lower portion of the range.

Experienced Estimators who can independently manage commercial construction estimates and larger or more complex bidding opportunities may fall toward the higher portion of the range.

Because we are hiring at multiple levels, we encourage qualified candidates to apply even if they are unsure exactly where their experience fits within the range.

Depending on your experience, you may gain exposure to:

  • Commercial construction plans and specifications
  • Material and labor estimating
  • Subcontractor and vendor pricing
  • Pre-bid meetings and site visits
