Description of Responsibilities
The Family Nurse Practitioner blends general clinical duties with specialized neurological care, offering a unique opportunity to work closely with patients experiencing a wide range of neurological conditions.
Responsibilities of the Family Nurse Practitioner include the following:
1. Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams, with a focus on identifying neurological symptoms such as tremors, seizures, migraines, or cognitive decline. Be familiar with and utilize diagnostic tools to support clinical assessments.
2. Collaborate with neurologists to develop individualized care plans for conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions. Monitor patient progress and adjust treatments as needed, including medication management and referrals for therapies. Oversee infusions as a part of the treatment regimen when required.
3. Assist in or perform procedures such as botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders or chronic migraines, under supervision as required.
4. Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families about neurological diagnoses, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications. Help patients understand complex conditions like dementia or stroke recovery.
5. Work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care. Coordinate follow-ups, specialist referrals, and continuity of care for chronic neurological conditions.
6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Ensure compliance with clinic protocols, HIPAA regulations, and quality assurance standards.
7. Stay current with advances in neurology through continuing education, conferences, and participation in clinical research or specialty clinics (e.g., headache or movement disorder clinics).
8. Reporting to the partners or their designee in a prompt, efficient manner with the proper
disposition. This may include participation in routine management meetings, training oversight, reporting, and coordination with other departments or personnel.
9. Other projects, activities, or responsibilities assigned at the discretion of the partners or their designee.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
2. Current Virginia License
3. National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC certification)
4. BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain)
5. Neurology or other specialty experience preferred

Physical Requirements
1. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit as well as talk and hear
2. Good hand-eye coordination with the ability to lift up to at least 25 pounds
