Job Description

Registered Dietitian – Dialysis (Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week)

We are seeking a Registered Dietitian to join our dialysis team in a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role. This is a split-site position, providing nutrition services and patient support across two outpatient dialysis facilities in the Metro Detroit area. The successful candidate will divide their time between both locations and collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to support optimal patient outcomes.

**Duties & Responsibilities:**

Ready to make a real difference in patients' lives? Here's what you'll be doing:

  • **Get to know your patients** through comprehensive initial and ongoing nutritional assessments and interviews (including caregivers and relevant team members)
  • **Evaluate and monitor** each patient's nutritional status and create personalized diet plans that actually work
  • **Calculate, prescribe, and teach** patients and staff about their customized nutrition needs
  • **Become the nutrition champion** by providing engaging educational sessions to patients, caregivers, and unit staff
  • **Build bridges** across the healthcare community by coordinating care with hospitals, extended care facilities, home health agencies, senior centers, and "Meals on Wheels" partners
  • **Keep patients on track** by monitoring their adherence to dietary recommendations
  • **Advise the team** on phosphorus binders, renal vitamins, stool softeners, oral iron products, cinacalcet, vitamin D analogs, and calcium supplements
  • **Review the numbers that matter** by analyzing monthly lab results with patients and identifying trends
  • **Problem-solve creatively** by recommending nutritional interventions like alternate feeding routes, tube feedings, and supplemental options
  • **Be ready for action** by providing crisis intervention for situations like hyperkalemia and other urgent nutritional concerns
  • **Connect the dots** between medications and nutrition by monitoring drug-nutrient interactions
  • **Collaborate like a pro** by actively participating in interdisciplinary patient care meetings and contributing to comprehensive care plans
  • **Drive improvement** by engaging in unit quality improvement initiatives and activities
  • **Stay connected** through active participation in GHS dietitian meetings and committees
  • **Hunt down resources** that help your patients thrive nutritionally
  • **Be a team player** by making and receiving referrals, sharing knowledge, and developing educational materials that inspire
  • **Lead by example** as a professional role model for colleagues and interns
  • **Keep growing** through professional development—attend conferences, maintain memberships, and stay current with nephrology literature
  • **Maintain your edge** by keeping your ADA registration current through continuing education in nephrology
  • **Master the science** by participating in and facilitating kinetic modeling
  • **Support protocol management** as needed
  • **Make informed recommendations** based on thorough nutritional assessments and reassessments
  • **Mentor the next generation** of Dietetic Interns when the opportunity arises
  • **Embrace flexibility** by taking on other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education & Experience :

  • Requires Bachelor of Science in Nutrition

  • Requires completion of an approved dietetic internship

  • ADA Registered and minimum of 1 year professional experience as RD in clinical nutrition required
