Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner Provider

Locations: Northern California | Chico Placer Redding

Flexible Schedule | Competitive Compensation | Mission-Driven Work

The Nurse Practitioner will provide professional, timely, and compliant pre-enrollment physical examination services on behalf of Beat The Rhythm Occupational Health & Safety. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing whether each participant appears medically appropriate to perform the essential functions of the assigned Corpsmember role, including Standard Corpsmember and/or Fire Crew Corpsmember duties, based on the CCC Position Analysis, company protocols, applicable clinical standards, and state/federal compliance expectations.

This role is ideal for a Nurse Practitioner with occupational health judgment, comfort performing focused physical examinations, and the ability to assess participants against job-specific physical demands. The Nurse Practitioner understands that services may be performed at designated client sites and may require travel, flexibility, and the ability to work independently in a mobile or on-site occupational health setting. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to bring strong clinical judgment, accurate documentation practices, professional communication, and the ability to complete physical examinations efficiently while maintaining quality and compliance.

  • Review the Position Analysis and understand the physical, environmental, and psychological demands of the Standard Corpsmember and Fire Crew Corpsmember roles.
  • Review participant health histories, medical questionnaires, medication lists, allergies, prior injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions, mental health disclosures, and relevant occupational or activity limitations.
  • Assess whether the participant can safely perform essential Corpsmember functions, including prolonged standing, walking, hiking, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, twisting, repetitive hand use, pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, and carrying
  • Evaluate the participant's ability to tolerate outdoor work under adverse environmental conditions, including extreme heat or cold, humidity, wetness, dust, smoke, fumes, noise, uneven terrain, heights, biohazards, insects, poisonous plants, wildlife, and other outdoor hazards.
  • For Fire Crew candidates, assess medical readiness for more physically demanding and high-risk activities, including strenuous hiking, firefighting support, carrying tools and packs, exposure to smoke and heat, emergency response assignments, irregular meals, disrupted sleep, extended shifts, and psychologically stressful field conditions.
  • Perform focused physical assessments, including vital signs, height, weight, vision screening, hearing-related screening or review, cardiopulmonary assessment, musculoskeletal assessment, neurological screening, skin assessment when relevant, functional mobility review, and general physical examination.
  • Confirm required visual standards when applicable, including Snellen acuity and color vision screening requirements identified by the CCC Position Analysis and related program requirements.
  • Identify abnormal findings, safety concerns, activity limitations, medical restrictions, or conditions that may require additional medical documentation, specialist clearance, or further evaluation before participation.
  • Determine whether the participant is medically cleared, cleared with limitations, temporarily deferred, or requires additional follow-up before clearance can be completed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in California.
  • Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the applicable specialty area.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to perform focused occupational health physical examinations and make clinically appropriate clearance recommendations.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and independent decision-making skills.
