Role Description The Auto Parts Clerk is a full-time, on-site role based at Barry's Auto Supply in Tewksbury, MA. This role is responsible for assisting customers at the counter, identifying and locating appropriate auto parts, and providing product information to support purchasing decisions. Day-to-day tasks include processing sales transactions, answering customer inquiries in person and by phone, and ensuring parts are properly labeled, stocked, and organized. The Auto Parts Clerk will also help monitor inventory levels, receive and shelve incoming shipments, and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area. Collaboration with other team members to meet customer needs and support store operations is an important part of this position.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of auto parts and basic automotive systems; ability to look up and identify correct parts for various vehicles.
  • Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, patience, and a helpful, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Experience with retail or counter sales; comfort handling transactions, upselling related items, and working with point-of-sale systems.
  • Inventory control skills, such as stock organization, cycle counting, and accurate record-keeping for incoming and outgoing parts.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move boxes of parts as needed, and follow safety procedures.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory lookups, order entry, and use of catalog and vendor systems.
  • Prior experience in an auto parts, automotive service, or related retail environment is beneficial but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; willingness to learn and participate in ongoing product and catalog training.
