The Opportunity:
BCS Automation is seeking a motivated, resourceful problem solver with strong technical aptitude for our Electrical Control Systems Designer opening. In this role you will support the design, development, and commissioning of custom automation systems for marine and industrial applications.
This role is ideal for an energetic team member with a genuine interest in automation technology who enjoys collaborating with customers and colleagues, taking ownership of their work from concept through commissioning, and delivering high-quality work.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and technologists, contributing directly to the successful delivery of custom automation projects, while gaining valuable experience in the growing marine and industrial automation industry.

Your Role:
- Design custom electrical control systems for marine and industrial applications, from concept through commissioning.
- Develop, test, and commission PLC and HMI software.
- Collaborate with customers, vendors, engineers, and technologists.
- Translate customer requirements, concepts, and technical specifications into complete electrical designs and technical documentation.
- Support installation, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities in both shop and field environments.
- Contribute technical expertise to project planning, estimating, product selection, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with new product development; evaluate and implement new technologies.
- Gain hands-on panel fabrication, system integration, testing, and commissioning activities, developing a practical understanding of how designs are built, implemented, and maintained.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Engineering Diploma or equivalent;
- Experience designing control systems;
- Experience analyzing and interpreting specifications;
- Effective at translating customer concepts into detailed engineering documentation;
- Experience with PLCs (e.g. Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens), HMIs (e.g. Siemens WinCC,
- FactoryTalkView), VFDs, motor controls, industrial networks (e.g. TIA Portal), and instrumentation;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, ask relevant questions, and work collaboratively with customers and internal teams (strong verbal and written communication skills are essential);
- Proficient with AutoCAD 2D and 3D; and
- Proficient using hand and power tools.
Experience That Will Put You Ahead:
- Experience developing 3D models and a strong interest in 3D design;
- Experience leading projects;
- Knowledge of marine and/or industrial processes;
- Knowledge of IEC standard; and
- Onsite start-up and commissioning.
