About the Role
Join the growing team at Southwoods Health as we expand our footprint in Trumbull County. Following the 2025 opening of our comprehensive Howland Specialty Care facility, we are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to provide high-level, patient-centered care. This role is ideal for a clinician specializing in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment alongside fellowship-trained orthopedic and spine specialists.
Essential Duties
- Specialized Treatment: Administer medically prescribed OT treatments to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability, primarily focusing on hand and upper extremity injuries.
- Evaluation amp; Planning: Review physician referrals and medical records to develop and revise individualized treatment plans based on continuous monitoring of patient response.
- Hand Rehabilitation: Design and fabricate custom splints and implement rehabilitation programs for post-operative recovery, tendon injuries, and chronic conditions like carpal tunnel or arthritis.
- Collaboration: Confer regularly with physicians and other practitioners to integrate OT into the patient’s broader healthcare plan and suggest necessary program revisions.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on post-op recovery processes, physician protocols, and home exercise programs (HEPs).
- Supervision: Provide appropriate oversight for COTAs, students, and other licensed/unlicensed personnel in accordance with Ohio state requirements.
- Compliance: Accurately document all patient care services within facility timeframes and in accordance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school for Occupational Therapy.
- Licensure: Active Ohio state OT licensure.
- Certification: Current AHA BLS certification.
- Specialization: Specialty certification in Hand Therapy (CHT) or significant experience in hand/upper extremity rehabilitation is required.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of managing complex upper extremity disorders and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
