Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team in Decatur, GA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting physicians and patients through a combination of clinical and administrative duties. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent patient care, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Document chief complaints and complete the patient triage process within 5 minutes of check-in.
- Assist physicians with physical examinations and minor procedures.
- Measure and record vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations.
- Administer childhood vaccines according to the Georgia Vaccine Schedule.
- Document patient visit requests in the EMR according to established protocols.
- Administer medications and injections under the direction of the healthcare provider.
- Collect laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples, as ordered.
- Provide patient education materials, including Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) and other healthcare resources.
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain sanitation protocols.
- Follow strict infection control procedures and maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment.
- Educate patients on infection prevention and proper hygiene practices.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments according to office protocols.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes.
- Verify insurance information and assist with billing and coding functions.
- Process referrals in accordance with insurance requirements.
- Respond to patient calls within 24 hours of receipt, or the same business day for urgent matters.
- Assist with appointment reminder calls.
- Help manage inventory and order medical supplies as needed.
- Perform additional administrative and clinical duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Knowledge of EMR systems and medical office procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual communication skills preferred.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient care.
- Understanding of infection control and patient confidentiality requirements.
