We are seeking experienced, highly motivated technicians who enjoy diagnosing difficult problems, working independently, and delivering exceptional customer service directly at the customer's location.
This is primarily a mobile field service position covering the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Every day presents a new challenge, allowing our technicians to work on one of the widest varieties of diesel-powered equipment in the industry.
What You'll Work On
Our technicians regularly diagnose, service, and repair:
- Heavy-duty diesel trucks (Class 7 & 8)
- Medium-duty trucks
- Fleet vehicles
- Semi-trucks and tractors
- Heavy-duty trailers
- Agricultural equipment
- Construction equipment
- Diesel engines
- Diesel-powered generators
- RV generators
- Class A diesel motorhomes
- Class A gas motorhomes
- Class C motorhomes
- Fifth wheels
- Travel trailers
- Commercial diesel equipment
Primary Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related systems.
- Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, air brake, steering, suspension, cooling, fuel, and drivetrain diagnostics.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled services.
- Diagnose and repair diesel-powered generators and RV generators.
- Service RV and motorcoach chassis systems as required.
- Perform occasional field welding and light fabrication repairs.
- Complete accurate electronic work orders, inspection reports, and technician notes.
- Communicate professionally with customers and our Service Coordinator throughout each repair.
- Represent 1836 HD with professionalism, integrity, and exceptional customer service.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Diesel schooling or certification through Universal Technical Institute (UTI), ASE, or another accredited diesel training program.
- Minimum three (3) years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience.
- Experience servicing:
- Heavy-duty trucks
- Medium-duty trucks
- Heavy-duty trailers
- Agricultural equipment
- Construction equipment
- Diesel-powered equipment
- Welding experience is required. Candidates must be comfortable performing field welding repairs and basic fabrication when necessary. Larger fabrication projects are typically completed in our shop; however, technicians should be capable of completing repairs safely and efficiently in the field.
- Experience servicing RV generators and commercial diesel generators.
- Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Additional manufacturer certifications are a plus but are not required.
Compensation & AdvancementBase Compensation
- $22.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, diagnostic ability, productivity, and overall qualifications.

Additional Hourly Compensation for Mobile Vehicle Use
Technicians who utilize their own approved vehicle for mobile field service may qualify for additional hourly compensation.
