Job description

Job Summary: The Field Service Technician is to perform repair and preventive maintenance services, with documentation, for Sterile Processing Devices. This includes equipment such as autoclaves, washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, scope washers, boiler and more. They are to ensure an excellent customer experience by using superior communication skills along with a proactive, positive attitude. The Technician will perform these services to comply with the policies and procedures of the customer/client and Atlantic Biomedical.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through proactive communication and a commitment to resolving issues/problems.
  • Perform operational verification and electrical safety tests on Sterile Processing Devices.
  • Execute corrective maintenance and repair services on Sterile Processing Devices and systems. This includes disassembling, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, rewiring, reassembling where required, troubleshooting, calibrating and making sure the device is ready for use by using standard and specialized tools as well as test equipment and technical manuals. The technician must have mechanical skill to work with hand tools such as pipe, box and adjustable wrenches, Philips and flathead screwdrivers, and digital multimeters and Amp clamps.
  • Perform scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, clean chambers, descale boilers, and maintain Sterile Processing Devices.
  • Safety test Sterile Processing Devices and healthcare facility’s structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Perform work with the installation team as assigned. This type of work may require travel and off-hour scheduling. Learn and perform field soldering of copper pipes, making electrical connections and operational verifications. Keep a clean job site and follow the instructions of the installation supervisor.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned


Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of the Sterile Processing Device Technician’s role 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent  interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to multitask. Work in the field and in the office
  • Valid driver’s license and DOT card 
  • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated as well as other immunizations required by our clients 


Education and/or Experience: Minimum 1-3 years experience as a SPDS Technician experience preferred.  Associate’’s degree with a focus on Electrical or other related disciplines. 


Physical Requirements: 

  • This position requires routine walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting, sitting, standing, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling and grasping. 
  • Perform work from floor level to above shoulder height.  This may include using ladders and/or scaffolds
  • Routinely lift/lower/carry 1 to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/lower 75 to 100 pounds
  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time
  • Working in confined spaces and variable temperatures
  • Must travel to customer sites that include, but are not limited to: hospitals, operating rooms, laboratories, surgery centers, pharmaceutical production facilities, animal research centers, and other commercial customer's facilities
