For employees the holidays are a time to have fun and unwind. But for the boss or HR manager, they present some interesting decisions:
- Should you give your employees a gift?
- Is it ok to hang mistletoe?
- What about booze at the Holiday party?
Don’t worry, we have the answers to these questions – and more!
- Life of the Party – Are you throwing a Holiday party for your employees and providing booze? Great! Just make sure your cell phone is charged and ready to capture the life of the party!
- Cash or coal? – Want to give your team something for the holidays? A cash bonus beats a coffee shop gift card any day (though a gift card beats a lump of coal).
- When to decorate? – When is the right time to decorate the workplace for the holidays? The day after Halloween is the new day after Thanksgiving, unless you’re like that one house down the street that keeps their lights up all year long.
- Potluck in the office? – Why not go the extra step of ordering lunch for the office instead? Tis the season! (Also, ’tis the best way to avoid a table full of fruit cake.)
- The day after – Wondering whether to give everybody the 26th off? Do you really think any work will get done on the Friday after Christmas? Plus it will give your people an extra day to digest all that fruitcake.
- Pucker up – Is it ever okay to put mistletoe in the workplace? Only if you have great lawyers.
- Gotta Dance? – So you think you can dance? You can’t. Everyone is going to talk about “that guy on the dance floor” at the holiday party. There might also be pictures. And video. Possibly a dramatic reenactment at lunch. Don’t be that guy.
