Breanne Ness leads talent acquisition and L&D at Transwest, one of the fastest-growing transportation companies in the nation. Breanne’s team is committed to providing a positive and friendly recruitment experience for all candidates they meet.

So how does she do it? We recently sat down with Breanne to discuss Transwest, her role, and key strategies for success.

“At Transwest we want everyone to feel like they belong here. We are a family-owned and family-operated organization. When you’re here, you develop strong life-long relationships that help you grow professionally and personally”

What does it mean to you to be a Hiring Hero?

“My team at Transwest are the real hiring heroes! Their strength in recruiting comes from our ability to quickly connect with candidates. A genuine connection is what truly differentiates our hiring experience from other organizations in the industry. We want candidates to feel at ease throughout the entire process.”

Tell us a little bit about Transwest.

“Transwest is a one-stop-shop for all things commercial transportation, from purchasing, leasing, financing to maintaining and even reselling. Since we do so many things, we need to recruit for a vast variety of positions. And since we’re experiencing rapid growth— there’s never a dull moment in my department.”

What is your favorite part about working at Transwest?

“My favorite thing about working at Transwest is the team. There are so many unique people with wealth of knowledge, great backgrounds, and fun personalities. They are a joy to work with every day. At Transwest we want everyone to feel like they belong here. We are a family-owned and family-operated organization. When you’re here, you develop strong life-long relationships that help you grow professionally and personally.“

Can you talk more about how your team was affected by COVID?

“One thing that I can say that has changed since COVID is our ability to recruit in the community. We were in schools connecting with people, telling them about our opportunities, and fostering relationships with potential candidates. Unfortunately, with COVID, that is something that we had to cut back on.”

How have your recruiting strategies shifted due to COVID?

“Since we can no longer recruit in-person, we rely much more on automation and AI. We utilize two different automation tools that allow us to communicate quickly and easily with our candidates. We also use AI matching for our open roles so we receive candidates that have the qualifications we are looking for – which saves us time. Time that we can now invest in ensuring candidates have a great experience. And I don’t see us shifting too far away from this strategy, it’s been very successful.”

Breanne’s Tips for the Future of Recruiting

“I definitely recommend leveraging technology – like AI and automation – even after the pandemic is over. We’re loving these newfound efficiencies, ROI, and having more time to invest in the employee lifecycle—from the candidate experience to L&D.”
