What is a weekend PCB?

Weekend PCB jobs refer to positions in the printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing or assembly industry that are scheduled primarily on weekends. These roles can include tasks such as assembling, inspecting, testing, or repairing PCBs and are often suited for individuals seeking part-time work or additional income. Weekend PCB jobs may require technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. They are commonly found in electronics manufacturing companies that operate around the clock to meet production demands.

What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend PCB technician, and how does the weekend shift differ from standard weekday shifts?

As a Weekend PCB Technician, your primary responsibilities include assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing printed circuit boards in a manufacturing environment. Weekend shifts often involve working more independently, with fewer supervisory and engineering staff on site, which can require strong problem-solving skills and self-reliance. You may also be expected to handle urgent production needs or equipment maintenance to ensure smooth operations for the following week. Collaboration with other technicians and clear documentation of your work are essential, as hand-offs between weekend and weekday teams are common. This role can offer opportunities to develop technical expertise and may lead to advancement in engineering or supervisory positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend PCB technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend PCB Technician, you need a solid understanding of electronics, soldering techniques, and the ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, often supported by a relevant technical diploma or experience. Familiarity with PCB design and testing software, rework stations, and inspection tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate assembly, troubleshooting, and quality assurance in a fast-paced, time-sensitive manufacturing environment.

Job description

Ajax Systems is expending and is looking for aHardware Engineer to strengthen our team in Vietnam.

Ajax Systems is an international tech company and the largest manufacturer of security systems in Europe, with over 4.5 million end users and 330K PRO users in more than 180 countries worldwide. The company offers end-to-end solutions for protecting homes and businesses of any scale. To date, the Ajax product portfolio includes 280 devices for intrusion protection, video surveillance, fire and life safety, and comfort and automation.

As a Hardware Engineer, you will not only design circuits but also serve as a technical cornerstone for our R&D in Taiwan.
We are looking for an expert who brings strategic value: someone who can oversee complex system architectures, consult on cross-departmental optimizations, and mentor the team on high-performance design methodologies. You will be the bridge between innovative concepts and mass-scale manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architecture & Design:Develop sophisticated schematic solutions and PCB layouts for new Ajax devices, ensuring high reliability and scalability.
  • Strategic Optimization:Proactively identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance enhancement through component unification and innovative architectural shifts.
  • Project Oversight:Lead complex hardware projects from initial concept through to mass production (10,000+ units/month), ensuring all technical risks are mitigated.
  • Cross-Functional Consultation:Act as a subject matter expert for the firmware and supply chain teams to optimize the hardware-software interface and manufacturing yield.
  • Prototype Lifecycle:Lead the "bring-up" process, debugging complex issues and defining rigorous testing protocols for design validation.
Requirements
  • Advanced Circuit Design:Expert-level calculation of circuit elements and high-fidelity simulations of device behavior.
  • EDA Mastery:Professional proficiency in Altium Designer (experience with managed libraries and 3D modeling is preferred).
  • Design for Excellence (DfX):Proven track record of designing for LVD/EMC compliance and mass manufacturing (DFM/DFT).
  • Power Management:Deep expertise in designing both battery-powered and mains-powered (85–265 VAC) devices.
  • Full Lifecycle Ownership:Experience preparing comprehensive production documentation (BOM management, Gerber files, assembly drawings) using Git for version control.
  • Communication:Fluent English is required for technical documentation and international collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supply Chain Leadership:Direct experience working with vendors and manufacturers for high-volume production.
  • High-Speed Design:Advanced understanding of Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI). Experience with S-parameters, PDN impedance modeling, and TDR measurements.
  • System-Level Thinking:Ability to write or review embedded software (C/C++, STM32) to facilitate deep-level debugging and hardware-software co-design.
  • Regulatory Mentorship:Experience guiding products through global certifications (UL, CE, RED), beyond basic compliance.
