Job description

The Anatomy Lab Teaching Assistant (TA) supports human anatomy instruction to MBKU Physician Assistant, Optometry, and Pharmacy programs. Working under the supervision of faculty, the Anatomy Lab TA will assist in providing the highest quality anatomy instruction/lab assistance using state-of-the-art technology, including the Anatomage table (virtual cadaver technology) and other anatomical material.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES

This Anatomy Laboratory TA supports graduate level anatomy instruction and laboratory activities using the Anatomage tables, models, apps, and specimens. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain lab material and ensure equipment functionality
  • Supervise anatomy lab sessions and activities
  • Assist with laboratory practical exams, including setup, cleanup, proctoring, and grading
  • Grade exams, worksheets, remediations, and other assignments
  • Set up and demonstrate the Anatomage table and anatomical materials during lab sessions, school events, and other activities
  • Instruct, train, and support students and faculty on the use of anatomical materials
  • Meet with students individually or in groups to review assignments, anatomical concepts, and exams
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students during review sessions and open lab periods
  • Coordinate and conduct open lab hours, including after hours and weekends
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of lab materials and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and proper handling of anatomical materials and equipment
  • Prepare laboratory exercises in conjunction with the course syllabus and lectures
  • Schedule and coordinate lab usage
  • Create videos of anatomical models, Anatomage, or specimens
  • Maintain regular software updates, cleaning, and service of Anatomage and other laboratory equipment on a routine basis
  • Assist with data analysis and processing
  • Other duties may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives and learning outcomes

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Knowledge of Anatomical and Medical Terminology

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college in a life science field is required.
  • Applicants must have completed 2 semesters of Anatomy and/or Physiology or equivalent science courses

Experience in human body dissection, teaching in an academic laboratory setting, knowledge of medical terminology or clinical anatomy, and knowledge of a learning management system are preferred.
