This leadership role combines high-acuity clinical neonatology practice with oversight of NICU operations, quality improvement initiatives, and academic programming. The position is affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and emphasizes both clinical excellence and medical education.

Dates / Schedule Full-time, permanent leadership position Requires local residency in the Roanoke, VA area (relocation may be required) Not accepting locum tenens candidates Not accepting visa candidates (J1/H1B not supported) Must be available for ongoing clinical and administrative leadership duties Job Details / Responsibilities Provide clinical care in a 60-bed Level IIIB NICU with 625 annual admissions Serve as Practice Medical Director overseeing NICU operations and provider performance Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across the neonatal service line Drive clinical innovation and program development within the NICU Collaborate with hospital leadership and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Participate in teaching for medical students, pediatric residents, and family medicine residents Lead and contribute to Grand Rounds, simulation Boot Camps, and academic programming Mentor trainees in quality improvement and research projects Support scholarly activity and academic growth initiatives Work alongside multidisciplinary teams including maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric surgery Utilize advanced neonatal therapies such as high-frequency ventilation and nitric oxide Required Skills & Qualifications Board Certified in Neonatology (required; no board eligible candidates accepted) MD or DO degree (required) Virginia medical license or willingness to obtain (required) Demonstrated leadership experience in NICU or clinical program development (required) Strong neonatal clinical experience (required) Clean malpractice and licensing history (implied expectation) Must disclose visa status (J1/H1B not accepted) NPDB Self-Query Report within 30 days (required at submission) DEA registration prior to start (required) Eligible for hospital credentialing Must meet facility-specific clearance requirements
