Description
The Military and Veteran Services Office (MVSO) invites applications for a Service Access Coordinator to join their team. This position is part of the Enrollment sector under the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division, aimed at improving the student experience through all steps of the academic journey. This role serves as a VA School Certifying Official (SCO) for the University of Montana (UM), Missoula College, and Bitterroot College. The Service Access Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the University of Montana remains in compliance with all Federal and State regulations, policies, and VA standards that influence the standard operating procedures of the MVSO.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide servicemembers and their families with accurate, up-to-date information on education benefits in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Ensure all communications comply with FERPA and maintain strict confidentiality standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and campus administrative offices, as well as external partners including the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense.
  • Support Student Success and Enrollment initiatives, including participation in campus visits and outreach activities.
  • Maintain a consistent in-person presence in the Military and Veteran Services Office to ensure accessible, high-quality student support.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma and three (3) years of experience working directly with U.S. veterans (or military service), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of student advising practices for certificate and degree programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to effectively meet diverse student needs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to support students using military education benefits.
  • Experience supporting or participating in outreach events within enrollment or student success functions.
  • Ability to prepare and submit documentation for audits and compliance reviews (e.g., University, VA, DoD).
  • Proficiency with computer systems and software to access, analyze, and manage data.
  • Familiarity with higher education systems, processes, and organizational structures.

Additional Information
Compensation Title: Service Access Coordinator
Union: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year. May require adjusted work hours to accommodate for events.
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
