Position Summary
CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners.
Language tutors provide support to UNM students who are learning languages. Language tutors are either native language users or advanced language learners of the target language who can help students understand language material, improve their language production skills (speaking, signing, writing) and language reception skills (listening, reading, comprehending), and overcome problems in language learning. As a member of the CTL team, student staff attend weekly or biweekly training focused on language content and tutoring practices, which are designed to make student staff effective facilitators of student learning.
Language tutors:
  • Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies in language acquisition

  • Provide language support through one-on-one consultations with student learners (including in-person, online, and asynchronous/e-mail support)

  • Provide language support by planning and conducting conversation group sessions for small-group language learning and practice

  • Serve as a liaison between language departments and CTL language services

  • Actively participate in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment

  • Perform administrative responsibilities per CTL and UNM guidelines

Availability to work Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm
Ability to provide both in-person and virtual support
Successful completion ofcollege-level courses in the language program that will be supported
