Job description
What´s the role?
As an Associate Technician (Intern) you will support the maintenance, repair, and restoration of telecommunications infrastructure, including aerial and underground cable networks. This entry-level developmental role provides hands-on training and exposure to outside plant operations, safety practices, network infrastructure, and field service activities.
You’ll also work alongside experienced technicians to learn industry standards, technical skills, and operational procedures required to support reliable broadband, video, voice, and business services.
How can you add value?
- Assist experienced technicians with installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial and underground telecommunications facilities.
- Support cable placement, cable transfers, strand work, and basic line maintenance activities.
- Participate in preventive maintenance and network restoration efforts during outages and emergency situations.
- Learn to identify and troubleshoot network impairments affecting customer services.
- Assist with pole line inspections and outside plant audits.
- Support construction projects involving fiber optic and coaxial network infrastructure.
- Perform basic material handling, inventory management, and equipment preparation.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and training completed.
- Utilize mobile applications and work management systems to document activities.
- Participate in classroom and field-based technical training programs.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Construction, Network Operations, and Service Delivery teams.
- Work on-call/after hours and shift as scheduled.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Vice President.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Vocational, technical, or college coursework in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
Prior internship, vocational training, or field experience is preferred, but not required.
Other Qualifications:
- Valid Puerto Rico Driver's License Category 8-9 with a satisfactory driving record, required within the first month of employment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Comfortable working at heights and using ladders after successful training and certification.
- Basic computer and mobile device skills.
- Strong willingness to learn technical concepts and field operations.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and construction practices is a plus.
