Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2+ years of current MICU experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details
  • Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) of a hospital environment
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Treats hemodynamically compromised patients requiring mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
  • Patients may require bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30)
  • Potential for rotating day/night schedule based on department staffing needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • 13-week assignment length
  • Epic EMR required
Requirements
  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care MICU experience required, with consistent work in the specialty within the last 12 months
  • Prior travel nursing assignment experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of ABGs, suctioning (ETT, NT), ventilator management, chronic/acute renal failure care, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience accessing/managing ports and external ventricular drain (EVD) management preferred
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN reference is acceptable for the second; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
  • Provide critical care nursing to hemodynamically compromised MICU patients requiring advanced monitoring and complex treatment regimens
  • Must complete Ohio fingerprinting process urgently upon signing contract; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will complete a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible for a travel assignment at any location within the system
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
