Masonry jobs involve using brick, stones, and cement blocks to build structures. In a union masonry position, you work as part of a labor union, which is an organization that negotiates wages and contracts and works to protect the rights of its members. As a mason, you work on construction projects involving brick or stone. In addition to positioning bricks and securing them with mortar, your duties include planning the layout of a structure, building frames, and ensuring a safe work environment. Your responsibilities may also include tearing down or repairing existing brick or stone elements or structures.
| Aspect | Union Masonry | Union Bricklayer |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Typically requires apprenticeship and union membership | Requires apprenticeship and union membership |
| Work Environment | Construction sites, commercial and residential projects | Construction sites, primarily brick and block work |
| Industry Usage | Broadly used for various masonry work | Specialized in brick and block laying |
| Job Tasks | Building walls, structures, and facades with various materials | Laying bricks, blocks, and similar materials |
Union Masonry and Union Bricklayer roles share similar certifications and work environments, often overlapping in construction projects. The main difference lies in scope: Union Masonry covers a broader range of masonry materials, while Union Bricklayers focus specifically on brick and block work. Both roles are essential in the construction industry and require union membership and apprenticeship training.
